Little Snippets of Summer 2018

Summer is not my favorite season but it’s definitely next to Autumn in my list. It’s probably the best time to go out for adventure and socialize. No wonder a lot of people waits for this season as it is full of different festivities that sure promises a good time. However, some good things don’t last as they say so as we begin to welcome Fall which happens to be my favorite season, I thought it would be fun for me to share with you all the Little Snippets of Summer 2018 in my own experience!

My favorite thing about Summer is the sun, the mild summer heat but never the humidity. There is no better way to treat yourself after months of -0°C temperatures and tons of snow than staying under the sun! Honestly, it is one of the most satisfying feelings ever! Sure I got my own dose of sunshine but Summer this year has been so quiet. Quiet in the sense that I was not able to enjoy the outdoors as much as I planned it to be. I experience a lot of days when I would feel mentally tired and have no energy to go out and enjoy the rest of the evening.

I kind of anticipated this after I was offered a Managerial position at work early this year. Honestly, it was an unexpected promotion since I was only employed for roughly six months in the company. However, it was a sweet surprise that I was more than ready to accept. At the same time I never really expected the amount of stress that’s waiting for me.

To prepare myself, I decided to start my Summer early by going on a short trip to New York City. Three days was truly short but I was willing to take any free days that I can before going into the battle. Yes, it was not my first time in the city but nevertheless, I had a great time walking around Time Square, Central Park, and Wall Street. Riding the subway without any tour guide was probably the most exciting part of this trip. Being a person who doesn’t have any sense of direction, that for me is a big achievement!

One of my favorite Summer events here in Montreal is the annual International Fireworks Festival which happens every Saturdays of July and early August. Here you’ll see massive firework displays that are hosted by different countries every week. Normally, I would frequent this event with either my friends or siblings. Sadly, this year, I was only able to go once when the Philippines was the assigned host. Call it favoritism but I didn’t want to miss it since this was the first time that my home country joined the festival.

Walking the Old Port of Montreal at night is another Summer tradition for me. Although I was only able to do it once this year, it was still one of my favorites. I was finally able to see the newly built Ferris wheel which I am planning to ride next Summer!

Majority of my free time during this season was spent eating out to cafe’s or restaurants that I haven’t been into. Thankfully, I was also able to enjoy a few drinks here and there with some of my good friends.

Cuba was the most beautiful part of this Summer. I have already talked about my experience in Varadero in a previous post but the time I spent in Havana was also magical! Learning about the country’s history, political system and architectures was such an experience! Not to mention all the beautiful vintage cars that I have only seen in this part of the world! Havana was beautiful and I am looking forward to visiting the city again in the future.

So that’s the little snippets of Summer 2018! Again, it was a quiet one but I wouldn’t trade it for other experiences.  Work definitely got in the way for me but I had a bunch of learnings to treasure. I had to miss our family vacation and a planned one-day excursion by myself but I had a few more Summers to look forward to! Positive thinking as they say!
