What Do I Like About It?

You may already know that SPF is so important to me and it should be the case for everyone because it helps protect our skin from the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays! With that being said, I love that this primer contains SPF 18! This is honestly outstanding because not every brand will think of incorporating the two.

So, if you are not the type who doesn’t like using sunscreen (but please do!), incorporating this primer on your daily makeup routine will be beneficial both for your makeup and skin!

I started using this primer because I noticed that my skin is becoming extra oily since the beginning of Summer. This has a mattifying effect which I thought is what I currently need. Although I didn’t immediately like this primer, I can attest that it does help to control my oily skin. Just like what it promotes to do, it did give me a more mattified finish considering my skin’s current state.

I’ll talk more about its consistency and blending ability later but let me first say that this blended well with other makeup products like my foundation, blush and bronzer. This is really important to help you achieve a flawless and natural finish!

What Didn’t I Like About This Product?

Although this gave me a more mattified finish, I’d have to say that this is not my favourite primer. In fact, this is probably one of the few disappointing products that I’ve ever purchased. This is such a shame since I really love the Murumuru Butter Bronzer and I expected the same quality from Physicians Formula on this primer.

For one, the packaging is amazing but it’s not very easy to use and could be unsanitary. This poses a lot of concern for me since I have very sensitive skin.

How the bottle work is that you have to twist the cap and press it to get the product. Problem is, the cap is flimsy and it has a high tendency to break leaving the product exposed to a lot of contaminants. Although mine is still intact, I’m already having problems with it so most probably, it’ll break even before I finish the bottle.

I especially dread the clicking sound that I hear every time I twist the cap! It’s as if it’s going to break on me even if I try to be very gentle with it.

You might think that the packaging is forgivable. I agree but sadly, the product itself is not outstanding!

Here’s Why!

Firstly, I am not a fan of its scent. I wouldn’t say it stinks but it does have a weird smell. However, this seems to be the case with most products from Physician’s Formula which I find a bit suspicious. Hopefully, the brand will do something about how they formulate scents on their products because it can throw off a lot of people.

Secondly, its mattifying effect does not last a while. I would say it can last for up to five hours and that’s it! You either have to reapply your makeup or apply a mattifying powder to help with any oiliness.

What I really dislike about this product is that it doesn’t seem to blend well with skincare products especially my sunscreen. It actually lifts off the sunscreen very evidently. I am not sure if it’s because this already contains SPF on its own that’s why it’s doing this or it does not simply like other liquid formulas.

The Swatch

This primer’s consistency is a bit runny and is a tad close to becoming watery. This actually helps to spread the product so easily which I must say I find impressive.

However, I find that it can feel gritty to the skin when it’s not used for a few days. It seems to develop tiny beads similar to facial scrubs which again is weird. Similarly, the texture goes back to normal if the product is being used frequently.

The Verdict

Overall, I’d give this primer a 4.0 out of 10 stars. Although it doesn’t last, I like that it still mattifying and is probably best if you are using it when running a short errand or if you don’t need necessarily need a mattifying primer.

However, I noticed a lot of negative results in terms of usability. I also like to point out that this didn’t effectively blur my pores and it didn’t help tone down my textures.

Sadly, I will not repurchase this product after I finish my bottle and I also won’t recommend it for oily skin especially if you are looking for a long-wearing primer.

Hope you find this review helpful and I’ll see you in the next blog post!

Till next time,
