3 Ways to Revamp Your Wardrobe on a Budget

Buying new clothes? Don’t spend more than you need to. A whole new look doesn’t need to break the bank.

All too often, people pay full price at expensive fashion stores without even considering ways to save money. If you shop carefully, there are easy ways to revamp your wardrobe on a budget.

1. Sell your old clothes

Before buying anything new, make some money by selling things that you don’t wear. We all have clothes that, if we’re completely honest, never make it out of our wardrobe.

Don’t save clothes because you “might like them again in the future”. Our tastes change, fashions change and you’re only kidding yourself. Selling your unwanted clothes allows them to be enjoyed by someone else, and puts cash in your pocket for the new things that you want to buy.

You can sell your old clothes at a car boot sale, or go online to sell your preloved clothes if you’re willing to packaging and postage.

By selling your old clothes to make money, you can give your bank balance a crucial boost before you hit the shops.

2. Look out for discounts

Whenever you’re buying new clothes, look for discount codes and vouchers. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to find a way to save money.

For example, if you’re a student then you can use your UNiDays account to get a student discount at places like ASOS. Did you know 70% of the clothes sold on ASOS’s marketplace are vintage or pre-worn items

Many people are entitled to discounts through their workplace, or simply for being a student, yet always forget to claim them.

3. Think about outfit combinations

Revamp your wardrobe on a budget by considering outfit combinations. Could the same cardigan be worn with three different dresses?

Mannequins in stores will show off a full outfit, encouraging you to buy everything at once, but this might not be necessary. Though the complete outfit might appeal to you, think before you spend. Do you already have a similar pair of trousers at home? Could you get away with keeping those out of your shopping basket? Could you buy one jumper to go with two different pairs of trousers, rather than two whole new outfits?

Shop displays are designed to maximize spending, and it’s easy to give in to temptation. But if you buy everything you’re shown, you’ll probably go beyond your budget.

Mix and match when you’re shopping. Buy only the items you need, even if they’re promoted alongside others. If it helps, go clothes shopping with photographs of the existing clothes in your wardrobe so that you can easily see what goes well together.

Alternatively, when you buy clothes online, you can shop for new items whilst sitting next to your wardrobe and can visualize new outfits much more easily.

It’s very easy to spend a small fortune on the latest fashions and wardrobe revamps, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Taking advantage of deals and discounts, seeking out sales and being wise to in-store marketing ploys can keep your bank balance in the black.

Till next time!
