Go Big or Go Home Mascara by Kat Von D

Since I am not blessed with long and thick lashes, mascara is an integral part of my everyday makeup routine. The Go Big or Go Home Mascara by Kat Von D is my current go-to and probably one of my all-time favourites! Why you ask? Well, allow me to tell you the reasons in today’s product review!

Go Big or Go Home Mascara by Kat Von D

For starters, this mascara claims to provide an intense volume to your lashes. It is also supposed to be flake and smudge free which is perfect for the upcoming summer.

It retails for $29.00 CAD for a 10 g worth of product which I’d say is slightly more affordable compared to the usual price points of other brands in the market.

Just like most of Kat Von D’s products, this mascara is vegan and cruelty-free which I believe is really important.

What do I like about it?

Now let’s dive in to what I liked about the product!

1. Bold, Unique and a Statement Packaging!

In terms of packaging, I am not always a big fan of Kat Von D’s aesthetics but this time, it’s definitely an exception. I love how the product’s name was neatly embossed in the entire half of the tube. It’s simple but very sophisticated.

I also love the combination of the matte and shiny black colour which complimented the over-all look of the product.

2. Volume!

This mascara is true to its word! It added a great amount of volume on my lashes without it looking clumpy! I love how it gave an illusion of me having thick and long lashes. You can add a few coats if you prefer but one coat is enough for a more natural look.

It’s also important for me to say that this is one of those mascaras that work really well with both the upper and lower lashes. It provides the needed volume on both sides which helps to really open up the eyes.

3. Easy-to-use Wand Applicator!

Wand Applicator’s in mascaras is really the most important! It is literally the part that needs to deliver in order for the product to execute what it’s supposed to do.

In this mascara, I can say that the wand applicator is pretty decent but is very easy to use. Now, I have to say that I am not extremely impressed with the wand but I’ll explain more about that later.

4. Smudge-free!

I personally hate mascaras that smudge because I don’t want to look like a raccoon while going about my day! Fortunately, this mascara does not do that! I wear this for about 10-12 hours a day and there is zero sign of smudging!

With that being said, this would be a perfect choice if you have an oily eyelid because the product does not easily melt which can mean that your mascara will remain intact all throughout the day.

5. Easy to Remove!

Although this has a really good staying power, it’s still easy to remove with just micellar water or with an oil-based cleanser. For me, this is really important since I do not want any product build up in my lashes since it can cause irritation or other skin unpleasant skin conditions.

What didn’t I like about it?

As much as I really like this mascara, there are certain things that I do not necessarily like about it. I believe that a small reformulation can easily fix the problem.

1. The product dries easily

What I mean about this is that the product itself dries easily both when being applied and the product inside the tube.

This can be a problem if you do not apply the product a little bit faster since it may not spread properly giving you a tacky finish. However, when applied quickly, you’ll easily avoid any clumpiness.

My main concern however is how fast the product can dry out inside the tube. I have the mascara for about 3 weeks now but it’s already almost empty not because I was using it regularly but because it’s drying super fast. I can say this by the look of the excess product being taken out by the wand.

2. The wand applicator can be a little tricky!

Okay! So, I mentioned above that the applicator is easy to use and this is true! However, it gets a little tricky mainly because the product dries fast. Once it does, the applicator cannot hold enough amount of product making the application a bit complicated but still manageable. It has the tendency to not apply the product uniformly which can be more time-consuming.

The Verdict

Over all, I love this mascara! It gives me what I need which is outstanding volume and lengthening effect! I would highly recommend it if you prefer sporting a thicker lash. Although it has its own doses of imperfections, I am not seriously worried about it since it can easily be managed.
