Why Did You Start Blogging?

“Why Did You Start Blogging?” is probably one of the most common questions I get when people from my normal life finds out about my blog. Most often than not, I’d smile so shyly and say, “Because I love to write…” and stop right there! (Probably even change the subject!)

I mean, if you author a small blog, how often do you actually talk about your blog with your friends, family, and most especially your colleagues? Very Rare! Well, at least for me. However, I find this question really interesting and maybe even informative in the blogging community. So today, I wanted to touch this topic to both share my reasons and to also learn from you guys!

Why Did You Start Blogging?

We all know that one of the most difficult yet very integral part of blogging is the actual process of starting and creating one. It is impossible to have a successful blog or website without going through this process. However, I truly believe that it is also one of the scariest part!

Once you decide to start a blog, you may already have an idea on what you would want to write or share. But starting a blog also means you are putting yourself out there (unless you choose to be anonymous of course!) which can be very scary for an introvert like me.

So Why Did I start Blogging?
alt="Blog About Why Did You Start Blogging?"

Looking back almost three years ago, I started blogging because of a phase that I was going through in my personal life. I was just getting back up after a difficult time. The very first article that I shared called “A Fresh Start says it all! I realized at that time that I have a story to tell! A story that I wanted to share so that others (women, especially) can learn from my mistakes and at the same time empower the people who are going through the same situation. To make them feel that they’re not alone and that life will get better.

This is when I suddenly had the desire to reach out and to possibly offer help and comfort. I wanted to empower women who’ve been abused physically and emotionally. I wanted to be a representation of a woman who has been emotionally tortured yet was able to get back up and start living a better life! These became my objectives and so thatgirlArlene was born!

These objectives also helped me chose the perfect name for my blog! For some, they may think that it’s basically just my name- Arlene. ButNo!

Now, we all know that society can be harsh in terms of giving a label to certain individuals. If someone failed to graduate from University, they would say, “that’s the girl who never graduated University”. If someone drives an old car, they would say, “that’s the girl who drives an old car because she cannot afford a new one”. Note that I tried to find “kind” scenarios but the logic is basically the same. People tend to label us because of what we’ve done wrong, what we didn’t achieve or maybe even the bad things that happened to us.

My Blog’s Name’s Explanation!

This is what I wanted to change. I wanted to show the positive results of that bad experience or event (in a person’s life) instead of sticking to the labels that people may choose to identify the person who went through it. It’s thatgirlArlene (bad label) versus the thatgirlArlene (positive results) kind of thinking and I am choosing the side that signifies the POSITIVE RESULTS.

Did I stick to My Objectives?

This is a question I often ask myself, was I able to stick to my objectives? Honestly, I sometimes find myself getting lost on what my blog is all about. Over time, I started writing about makeup, fashion, my own poetries, lifestyle topics, and travel.

Sometimes, I would stop and re-evaluate what I’ve been writing and I always come to one conclusion- I am sharing the things that I love and most importantly, I am doing what I love! This conclusion made me believe that I am on the right track because, after the storm, I was able to free myself from all the negativities and just embrace life once again! This is my aim! To prove to everyone that our past heartaches, mistakes, and misfortunes do not stop you from having a better future. You can move forward and you have to!

Always Remember the Reasons on Why you Started Blogging!

Whatever your reasons are for deciding to start your blog, always remember them because these will guide you on achieving better results. Do not rely on numbers because if you do, becoming a successful blogger can be twice as hard!

Be a Blogger with a Great Purpose!

I want to end this by encouraging you to be a blogger with a great purpose! Do not be just a regular blogger! Write with all your heart and with good objectives and your blogging journey will be so much fun and exciting!

Hope you enjoyed this post! How about you, Why did you start blogging?

Till next time,

Hi Natalie! Yes, I had to pay a hosting fee for my website and it’s totally worth it based on my website’s needs and my vision for it. 😀 In case you want to know, I’m hosting my site with Bluehost. 🙂 You can read more topics about “self-hosted sites” if you are contemplating on doing the same and to see of it’s for you. ♥️

I guess we’re somewhat similar. I started this as a good creative outlet and something to hold me accountable. I’m an introvert too and only a few of my friends know about my blog. Haha it’s always scary when someone I know personally reads my posts but it’s somewhat empowering when strangers can relate to me.

Lol. I totally agree! I immediately cringe thinking that my friends or people I know may read one of my blog posts! 🥶😜 I guess we’ll eventually get used to it though 😁 (hopefully!) 😃
