October 2018 Empties
I haven’t been doing monthly empties posts for a while now and that’s because I have not been consuming a lot of products lately. This month, however, came as a surprise since I accumulated a lot of trash! My goal of being consistent with my beauty essentials seems to be working I guess. Anyways, let’s get started and here are my October 2018 Empties!
October 2018 Empties
Makeup Products
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
I absolutely love this powder so much. I used it to set and bake my makeup and it works wonders especially under my eye. What I liked about it is that it works well with my combo skin, the powder does not cling to my dry areas and does not look muddy in my t-zone. So far, this is the best powder I’ve ever used and would definitely repurchase once I ran out of setting powders.
This gloss is a disappointment because the product dried out even though I very rarely use it. I guess it’s all because of the sticky and dry formula so the product just kind of dissolve in itself. If you are looking for a drugstore lip gloss, I honestly wouldn’t recommend this one unless you want to waste your hard earned $$$.
Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara by Tarte
I got this mascara in one of Sephora’s gift sets a few months ago. It wasn’t a very impressive mascara but it did work well for me. Although it helped to enhance my lashes, it did nothing in terms of lengthening or thickening my lashes which is what I needed most. For that, I probably wouldn’t repurchase this mascara in the future unless it’s a part of another gift set.
Skincare Products
Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser from Bioré
This cleanser is included in my Top 10 List of Cheap Drugstore Skincare Products and I honestly swear by this product. It helped to clear my skin and does a thorough job of removing every traces of makeup in my face. If you need a deep cleansing, this product may be the right one for you.
Gentle Toner from Nivea
Another from my Top 10 List of Cheap Drugstore Skincare Products. As the name suggests, it is a very gentle toner perfect for anyone with a sensitive skin. For me, I used it as my morning toner because of the gentle properties of the product. I love that it does not dry my skin which is what I needed before makeup application.
Original Skin Renewal Serum with Willowherb from Origins
This is a very gentle serum which is perfect to use in the morning. It feels very lightweight, non-greasy and made my skin smoother and hydrated. This serum also helped to prep my skin for a smoother makeup application for that, I would absolutely repurchase this product!
Water Bank Moisture Cream from Laneige
I got this as a sample from Sephora and have only used it on and off since I am not really impressed with the product. The consistency is thick but the product does not spread well so you need to use quite a handful for your entire face. I also feel like it didn’t moisturize my skin well so I’m glad I only got this as a sample and would probably not purchase the regular bottle.
Uplifting Transformation Eye Gel by Ole Henriksen
Honestly, I have a mix of feelings about this eye gel. First, the consistency is very sticky making it impossible to work with and I had a bit of bad reaction the first time I use it. It dried my undereye area making my fine lines really prominent so it was initially impossible for me to either use a concealer or bake my undereye. After giving it a few tries, it finally worked well and the side effects disappeared. I even feel like it helped to hydrate the skin around my eyes so I might give it another try in the future.
Face Masks
Blackhead Clearing Mask from Danielle
This black charcoal mask was a pleasant discovery from the drugstore. It’s a very effective peel-off mask that removes blackheads and whiteheads. It is designed for the t-zone but I use it all over my face and I did not notice any irritation or redness all over my face. Only thing was I have been trying to repurchase this mask but they’ve been out of stock everywhere I go. I guess my only option is to search for it online.
Aloe Collagen Mask from Skin Recovery
Skin Recovery is a Korean brand I have not heard before until this mask. I found it at a Korean beauty store here in Montreal and what prompted me to buy it is it’s Vitamin E and Collagen properties. Although I did not see a huge effect after one use, I’ll give it another shot to see if it’ll work well.
Lemon VC Hydrating Mask from Miniso
After my Summer Vacation, I opted for this mask because of its brightening effect. My skin was sunburned so I thought this would be the perfect mask not only to recover my skin tone but to heal any sun damage. After three uses, I did notice that my skin was smoother and slightly brighter. I’ve repurchased this mas during my last visit at the store and I’m excited to see if it’ll give me the same effect.
Hair Products
Since I am very particular with my hair products, these items have been a constant repeat in my empties. For my shampoo and conditioner, I only use products from Pantene since they’re the only ones that work well for my damaged hair. For these past few months, I’ve only used the Weightless Hydrating Mask from Moroccanoil since it helped to hydrate my hair. For some reasons though, it stopped working for my hair so I need to find an alternative. I tried the Don’t Despair, Repair from Brigeo but it didn’t do much for my hair.
Again, I’ve been a loyalist for the TRESemmé Repair & Protect Pre-Styling Spray for a few months now but I guess I’ve discovered a new product which I’ll talk about soon. Although this spray helps to prep my hair before using any heat, I find that the bottle does not contain enough bottle as they advertise it because it only lasts me a few sprays. I thought I had a wrong notion about this during my first bottle but the same thing happened on my second bottle so I guess it’s time to find a new one.
Body Care
Cooling White Strawberry & Mint Body Wash from Olay
For Body Wash products, I always look for products that have a beautiful smell. This body wash did smell well but it fades away as I step out of the shower which is a deal breaker for me. Although it felt smooth on my skin, I probably won’t repurchase and opt for a new one product the next time.
Strawberry Body Butter from The Body Shop
My sister actually gave this body butter to me and I fell in love immediately. It smells like a real strawberry and it helps to moisturize my skin. This may be perfect for Winter so I would repurchase a regular bottle whenever I pass by the store.
