Mountain Villages In Europe That Seem To Have Come Out Of A Postcard

When the conditions allow it again, everything goes well, and we travel again, we have a lovely idea for our next European excursion: To leave the big and famous cities and head to the beautiful mountain villages in otherwise popular European countries. What do you say?

We have said it before, but Europe is not just Paris, London, Berlin and all the famous capitals with popular attractions. Europe is also the provinces, the mountains, the smaller towns, and the villages that few know and even fewer have the opportunity to discover. In today’s article, we have gathered some of the most beautiful but less widespread mountain villages that we believe will impress you on your next trip.

Arties, Spain

Although we have associated Spain more with Mediterranean beaches, the truth is that by turning our attention there, we lose other concealed beauties. The beautiful Valle de Aran region of northeastern Spain, for example, is a unique fairytale area with quiet villages, green meadows, and snow-capped mountains, with images as close as those you put to your desktop wallpaper.

One of the most beautiful villages in the area is Arties, a small village with about 500 inhabitants on the banks of the Garonne River, known for its narrow, stone streets, colourful stone houses, and different air. If you can not visit it in winter, try a trip there in July, where the village has many celebrations.

Canazei, Italy

In the incredible Val di Fassa area of the province of Trentino in northern Italy, this “hot” ski village enjoys a privileged location near Marmolada, the highest peak of the snow-capped Dolomites.

Although inhabited by less than 2,000 people, Canazei is a global landmark among ski enthusiasts, who arrive there to enjoy the 40 km of slopes in the area. An area that is covered with white snow all year round hosts some of the highest quality winter ski resorts, offering its guests the opportunity to enjoy endless hours on the snow with their loved ones.

You, too, can book your vacation, in this blessed landscape of incomparable beauty, with the help of agency Erna Low, finding the most economical offers. But for those who prefer the warmth of the heart to the snowy slopes, Canazei is famous for its beautiful mountain huts and traditional, local cuisine.

Torla, Spain

If you are looking for a place to escape from civilization and live in the rhythms of the mountains, glaciers, and nature – recognized by UNESCO -, you will probably not find it better than the village of Torla, in the Spanish province of Aragón. It is part of the Ordesa-Viñamala Biosphere Reserve, a tranquil, mountainous paradise with icy valleys, black pine forests, and dazzling waterfalls.

After exploring the nearby Ordesa y Monte Perdido Natural Park for a day, you can spend the rest of the day with wine and homemade food in one of the traditional taverns, among the stone houses and the narrow streets of the village.

Till next time,
