The Summer heat is on and it’s serious! And although a warmer temperature is always welcome after a long Winter, it has its own downside especially when it comes to our skin. For me personally, this is the time of the year when my skin is at its oiliest which I extremely hate! So, I went on to search for a new product that will help me control this bad situation. I picked the Oil-Control Mattifier by Murad and this is what we are talking about in today’s blog post!

Now, before we move on, I’d like to point out that my skin’s oiliness this year is much worse than the previous Summers. This is somewhat surprising to me since my skin is mostly on the drier side so I had to switch quite a few of my skin care and makeup essentials this season.

I am also not used to deal with oily skin so I had to do a lot of trial and error! So far, I am slightly getting the hang of it so hopefully, all is well throughout the season.

Anyways, let’s move on to the reason why we’re here!

What is the Oil-Control Mattifier?

This is basically a moisturizer that helps control the skin’s oiliness and at the same time providing much-needed hydration. It promises to give you a mattified finish for up to eight hours.

This moisturizer is sold at Sephora for $52.00 CAD. You can also purchase the travel size version from Murad’s very own website for $15.00.

What Do I Like About the Product?

There’s definitely so much to love about this moisturizer! One is that it contains an SPF which is absolutely important especially this Summer. Although it’s only 15 SPF, it’s still a good added protection which your skin will benefit from.

The packaging is also amazing! It’s not fancy just like other moisturizers but it’s completely fine. What I like more is how convenient it is. Since it’s a tube, it’s very easy to take out the product and you can also easily control the amount of product that you want to use. This means you are not putting any ounce of the moisturizer to waste!

And now comes the biggest question, did the product worked? Let me say right ahead that it did! Honestly, I was pleased and relieved knowing that it was such a good purchase!

However, I have to say that the effect does take a tiny little while which is the case with most skin care products so it’s forgivable. Its mattifying effect was not very apparent during the first two or three days of me using it. My skin was still dripping with oil before the end of the day!

Eventually, though, I started noticing that my skin is becoming less and less oily as the days go by. Till date, I still notice slight oiliness but it’s not something that a powder can’t fix.

True to its promise, my skin is less oily for up-to eight hours or maybe even longer. Prior to using this moisturizer, my skin is already swamped with oil at around noon. However, with this product, I noticed very less shine or oiliness until the end of the day.

As you can see in the swatch, the product is light and it feels the same in the skin. Only thing is that it does not spread well on the skin so you need to use quite a lot of the product each time. However, I like that it’s not sticky and doesn’t leave a white cast on my face even though it contains an SPF.

What Didn’t I Like About It?

The only bad side that I noticed about this moisturizer is its smell! To be fair, I am not very picky when it comes to scents but this one is overwhelming. It has a medicated type of odour which can throw-off anyone who’s smell sensitive.

Gradually I got used to the smell but it still bothers me at times. However, I’m just thankful that the scent doesn’t last so you don’t have to walk with this scent while going about your day.

The Verdict!

Overall, this is such a good moisturizer for Summer or even an all -year choice if you have oily skin. It delivers what it says it would plus the added SPF is just amazing!

The price is not cheap but it’s in line with the majority of other moisturizers in the market.

However, due to its smell, I highly recommend trying it at the store or asking for a sample before committing on the regular size just so you won’t waste any money if you can’t tolerate the smell.
