Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper Review

Kat Von D is absolutely one of my favourite makeup brands in the market and lately I have been trying out so much of their products. My recent discovery is the Tattoo Liner in the shade Trooper which is described as a satin black shade. Needless to say, I was very excited to finally start using this liner after running out of the Maybelline’s Curvitude Liquid Liner just recently with high hopes. This also has a good and high reviews in Sephora’s website so it made the excitement all the more real!

What I like about it?

Unique and modish packaging is already common to most of Kat Von D’s products and this liner is definitely not an exception. The pencil is in a regular all-black colour but the white inscription and floral designs made all the difference. I have never seen an eyeliner as beautiful as this so it’s definitely a plus!

The brush applicator is yet another thing to love about this liner. The tip is very thin making it super easy to perfect a winged-liner. I also love how soft it felt on my lid regardless if I had to reapply it two or three times if I am looking for a darker and thicker line. The softness of the brush also helps to make the application much easier and faster. But to be fair, I think this is now a thing with a lot of liners in the market which is good because it really helps to save so much time in the morning.

The longevity is another thing I won’t question because this definitely passed my ten hour rule which is a really good thing and even if it last this much, I still find it super easy to remove at the end of the day. Another thing I loved about this liner is that it did not create any crease nor did it smudge so I didn’t have to worry about looking like a racoon at the middle of the day.

What I don’t like about it?

I am actually surprised to see a few disappointments with this liner. First, the shade is not as dark as I would prefer it to be. Now, when a company classify a shade to be “black”, I would expect it to be as dark as the night and that’s what I am looking for in a liner. With this, the shade is more like a dark brown so I need to reapply it until I get the coverage that I need. Another thing is that the application doesn’t seem to be even as you can see on my swatch below, the coverage kinda fades as the line goes through so it takes a two or three applications to even out the shade. I’ll however give it a credit that it doesn’t bleed so that helped a little bit.

The Verdict

Overall I did like this liner but I won’t like to repurchase it because I did not find any outstanding result or difference from cheaper alternatives like the Curvitude Liner from Maybelline which costs half of this liner. I also have the feeling that this won’t last a while because I noticed the shade fading since the seond week of using it. This requires for you to shake the liner to get more coverage but even that didn’t really helped as much. If you are like me who prefers dark liners, I would recommend for you to find a better alternative than this one because you probably may not like it.

Have you tried this liner yet? What do you like about it?

xoxo,
