Having a dry skin can be very uncomfortable and may even cause further skin problems. Not only that but makeup application can also be a challenge if you have a dry skin. To avoid these, it’s essential to use the right products to target dry skin and most importantly, know what to avoid! Here are Five Ingredients That You Need To Avoid If You Have Dry Skin to guide you!
Five Ingredients That You Need To Avoid If You Have Dry Skin
1. Fragrances
Fragrances in general are not good for the skin as it may cause irritation or even allergies. For dry skin, fragrances can even be worse since it can cause the skin to be more dry instead of alleviating it. It also clogs the pores which prevents the skin from breathing and may eventually cause a full blown acne!
If you have dry and sensitive skin, make sure to opt for fragrance-free skincare products and makeup!
2. Alcohol
Although some types of alcohol can be beneficial for dry skin (fatty alcohols), it is in general an unfriendly ingredient if you have a dry skin. Alcohol can be drying and could also cause skin dehydration.
Gels and lotions usually contain a higher amount of alcohol and so it’s best to avoid these type of products. Instead, go for thicker creams with no alcohol in its ingredient’s list.
3. Salicylic Acid
I hate to break it but Salicylic Acid is also not an ideal ingredient if you have dry skin. Although it has some benefits to the skin, it can cause the skin to dry even more especially if used excessively on a skin that’s already lacking moisture.
If you have a dry skin and want to treat your acne, Salicylic acid can still be used but as a spot-treatment.
4. Glycolic Acid
Glycolic Acid is another product to stay away from if you have dry skin. It’s a good ingredient to control oil production in the skin but can cause an already dry skin to get even more dehydrated.
This acid can also cause dry skin to be irritated because of its exfoliating properties that work to strip away dead skin cells.
5. Sulfates
Most cleansers contains Sulfates which are type of Surfactant that causes these cleansers foam, and remove dirt and oil. Although it can be beneficial for some skin types, Sulfates are definitely not for dry skin since it can further strip the skin moisture resulting in an even drier skin.
Such an interesting read! My skin is dry/sensitive and I need to avoid salicidic acid, sulfates and alcohol otherwise it gets really irritated, but I can tolerate glycolic acid.
