Is Your Skin Dry or Dehydrated
Dehydrated Skin
Dehydrated skin is a condition wherein your skin lacks water. It is caused by a lot of external factors like your diet, the environment, weather, and even excessive caffeine consumption.
It’s also important to point out that having a dehydrated skin can sometimes be temporary especially if your exposure to the external factors that caused the condition has been limited.
Since a dehydrated skin is a condition, it can affect any skin type. This means that a skin can also be oily and dehydrated at the same time or dry and dehydrated.
Signs of a Dehydrated Skin
Some common signs of dehydrated skin are redness, inflammation, itchiness, skin dullness, and sensitive fine lines and wrinkles.
However, the most common sign is that the condition can come and go, it does not continue for a long period of time.
Possible Treatments
For dehydrated skin, using ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, honey, aloe, lactic acid, and citric acid can help.
You may also want to add food into your diet that are rich in essential fatty acids like avocado, egg, and dark leafy greens.
Additionally, avoid scrubs or rough cleansing brushes, do not use skin care with fragrances and use gentle but effective cleansers.
My Recommendations:
Dry Skin
Dry skin on the other hand is a skin type(i.e., oily, combination, normal). This occurs when your skin produces less sebum than normal. Since there is not enough sebum, the skin will have a deficiency of lipids which helps to retain moisture in the skin.
Dry skin tends to also persist than dehydrated skin. This is one of the common differences between the two.
Signs of Dry Skin
Signs of dry skin include flaky and itchy skin, dullness, redness, pain, and roughness or tightness of the skin.
Possible Treatments
For dry skin, use skincare products with hyaluronic acid, squalene, jojoba, tea tree oil, rosehip oil, and coconut oil.
It’s also very important to find an effective moisturizer and apply it at least twice a day. Preferably switch to using cream moisturizers that are made of hyaluronic acid and ceramides.
