5 Tips To Prevent Mask Acne
1. Cleanse & Moisturize Your Skin Daily
These are the most basic skincare steps that you need to be doing every day! Make sure to find a gentle cleanser that addresses your skin type. This also applies when finding the right moisturizer. If you have dry skin, find a moisturizer that’s hydrating and does not strip off the moisture from your skin.
2. Wear Cotton Masks
The type of fabric used on your mask can also be a big factor. If you have sensitive skin or are experiencing maskne, it’s best to opt for a mask that’s made out of cotton.
Cotton is breathable and also comfortable which can cause less irritation to the skin.
3. Wear Clean Face Masks
I understand it can be tempting to reuse your face mask but avoid it! This is not only healthy for the skin but it’s basically beating its purpose. Reusing face masks will also transfer old makeup and bacteria to the skin that can then cause or worsen acne.
Ensure to wash your cloth face masks after every use before reusing them and discard all medical-grade face masks after one use.
4. Take A Day Off from Wearing Makeup
If you know that you’ll be wearing a face mask for the majority of the day, try to rest your skin from wearing makeup especially if you are already experiencing breakouts. Keep in mind that makeup may clog your pores which can then cause acne. If makeup is necessary, use non-comedogenic products only.
5. Wash Your Face
If you are not already doing it, make sure to wash your face immediately after a long day of wearing a mask. Do not wait until the end of the day. Doing this will ensure that you are getting rid of bacteria and dirt that can cause your skin to breakout.
