Dr Dennis Gross Sulfur Mask Review
Acne has been one of my major skin concerns for the past five years. Quite honestly, this has been a struggle for me because I have never really dealt with it when I hit puberty. Initially, I thought it was just a phase and it would go away eventually. I was wrong obviously because I still struggle with it up until now that I am on my late twenties. So I did what a normal newbie would do: experiment with different products, ingredients, formulation, and brands. Five years of “experimenting” also means a lot of hits and misses. Luckily, this method helped me find the best products to help me manage my struggle with acne. Today, I want to share my
Dr Dennis Gross Sulfur Mask Review
What is it?
An overnight sulfur mask to help treat and manage acne, blackheads
How to use it?
-Can be applied before makeup application to help minimize pores.
-Use as a mask to treat and manage acne.
Method 1: -Apply a thin layer of product to the affected area, leave it for 10 minutes and rinse.
Method 2: -Apply a thicker layer of the product to the affected area and leave it overnight for a deeper treatment. Rinse in the morning.
**Make sure that your skin is clean and dry before applying the product.**
Key Ingredient
Sulfur (5%)
How does Sulfur work as an Acne Treatment?
-It’s the most effective ingredient to treat mild acne.
-It helps remove dead skin cells from the skin’s surface while also fighting bacteria inside the pores.
-Much gentler ingredient than Salicylic Acid and Benzoyl Peroxide.
-It works by drying out the skin (or the affected area on where you apply the product topically) and at the same time helps to absorb excess oil (sebum) that may contribute to acne breakouts.
-Most effective for oily skin.
Now that we understand a little bit of the main ingredient, let’s talk about the product itself.
My Experience using Dr Dennis Gross Sulfur Mask
I personally prefer using it as an overnight mask because I find this method as the most effective way based on the severity of my acne. Usually, my breakouts are painful, red and large. But almost instantly, I would see great results after every use. It would instantly dry out the acne (usually after just one use!!) and would heal it after roughly 2-3 days. In about a week, all that’s left in my face are scars from the breakouts.
The consistency of the mask is similar to that of a clay mask but it’s definitely lighter and so I guess that’s why it does not clog your pores. Although Sulfur is best for oily skin, I find that it also works well for a combination skin type like mine. I saw similar results on both the oily and dry parts of my skin.
The Verdict
I have been using this mask for over four years now and I can honestly say that this is the only mask that really helps to treat my acne. So yes, this is absolutely effective if you are suffering from mild or occasional acne! It’s also important for me to point out that this mask only dries out the acne itself but not the entire face which is really important since I wear foundation every day to hide my acne scars.
Another thing that I really like about this mask is that it reduces the redness and the “bumpiness” of my acne after just one use. In a day, my breakouts are almost non-existent which I find really impressive!
The price point is a bit steep at $51.00 CAD at the Sephora’s website but knowing how this product works, every penny you spent with it is all worth it! One bottle contains 50 g of product and it’s recommended as a spot treatment so this will last you for 12 months which is also the mask’s shelf life.
Considerations
Just like the product’s description, this is only good to treat any existing breakouts and not as effective as preventing new breakouts. Therefore, this mask is good as a support to any other acne products that you use. Because of its drying properties, I highly recommend using a hydrating moisturizer when using this mask with other acne medicated products. Make sure to also use this mask with any products that work well with Sulfur.

Have you ever tried Dr. Murad. His cleanser eliminates 99% of the bacteria causing Acne. You could use this perhaps in addition to your Sulfur mask. Just make sure you moisturize as sulfur tends to over dry the skin. You might make the acne better, but now have a flaky mess on your hands if you don’t. I’d recommend a gentle gel moisturizer which doesn’t clog pores.

Hi there! I haven’t tried any cleanser from Dr. Murad yet but I’ve heard so much good stuff about his products. And yes, I do use a hydrating moisturizer to counteract the dryness from this mask. Would definitely consider your recommendations!🙂 Thanks!💕

Hi! Do you use a moisturizer with this when you use it over night or do you just apply the mask after washing your face??
And what moisturizer do you use? I’m having a hard time find a good moisturizer that doesn’t clog my pores. And every oil free moisturizer dries out my skin 😣

Hi there! Yes, I use a moisturizer before applying this mask. In fact, I apply all my other skincare and leave this for last. I also like using it overnight for better results. I’d recommend using a hydrating gel moisturizer with it because this mask has a tendency to dry your skin since it contains Sulfur. Hope this helps! xoxo
