Blogging Mistakes You Have to Stop Doing

Are you wondering why your blogging stats are low? Why are you not generating much traffic? I mean, after all the works that you have done, why does no one seem to notice your blog? The question now is, did you ever sit down to try and figure out a solution? Perhaps, you are making a few mistakes that are hurting your blog without you even knowing it! Here is a list of the blogging mistakes you have to stop doing to help you maximize your blog’s potential!alt=

You are not being original!

Writing original content is very important. Now, I know we all have bloggers that we look up to but it’s not a good idea to mimic their style and execution. Let them be your inspiration but never copy their or anyone else’s work. Do not be afraid to be you! Share your own ideas in whatever way you want it. Remember that if you are writing from your own heart, it will reflect on your works and your readers will feel it.

Inconsistent Blogging Schedule

We all have our own lives outside of blogging but if you decided to run your own website, it is your responsibility to create and share your contents on a regular basis if you want a consistent traffic. There is no need to post daily but have at least 2 or 3 posts ready every week. The key is to always plan your posts ahead and dedicate a time strictly for your blog only. Keep in mind that no one will remember you if you only share a few posts per month.

Not using imagesOne sad reality of blogging is that not all of our readers actually ‘read’ our articles. Majority scrolls down your page and leave without even looking at the entire article that you wrote for hours. That’s when inserting pictures can become helpful because it gives your readers a view of what you are talking about. It can also give them enough curiosity to actually read what it’s all about.

Not using your own images

Inserting images on your blog posts is important but using your very own images is equally essential. Your blog is your own brand and so you have to use your own product. Although some articles require you to use pictures from the internet, it is always a good idea to use your own pictures as much as you can.alt=

You are in it for the money

Who doesn’t want to make money blogging? No one! In fact, it is everybody’s dream to get paid on doing what they love.  But, if your sole purpose is to make money, I suggest you stop now because you will get disappointed. Although it is absolutely possible to monetize your blog, it takes so much work and time so chances are, you will eventually quit without seeing a paycheck.

Not owning your own domain

I myself started thatgirlarlene from the free version of WordPress because I did not have any clue about self-hosting which I later realize as a bad move. One reason why is that you do now own your own domain which makes it difficult for you to be identified as you are. This can also play a major role on your blog’s searchability so chances are people outside WordPress will never hear from you unless they have your blog’s link, meaning, you are not reachable by the vast majority. Let me know if you want me to share a separate post about this topic!alt=

You do not know what your audience wants

You can spend hours and hours creating an article but if you are sharing a topic that none of your readers are interested in, it will never generate any traffic. You have to know your readers in order for you to have a consistent following. You have to give your readers a reason to keep coming back on your website! Check your blog stats and see what are your most viewed posts and try to share more of that topic.

Your blog layout is not user-friendly

There are thousands of different blog layouts out there but if you choose something that’s not easily manageable, it can scare potential readers. It is best to have a simple layout that’s both aesthetically appealing and accessible.

Not promoting your previous blog posts

As difficult as it may be, we all have to accept that some articles eventually die down. Not necessarily because it is not well-written but maybe it’s because you yourself are not refreshing your readers about your previous works. Try to always share a link of a blog post (one that’s relevant to the current post that you are making) every now and then.

Not knowing about SEO

SEO is another different topic but one that needs a mention on this post. If you are already questioning what the heck is SEO, then you are missing a heck of a lot! SEO is basically your site’s potential of being out in the market. This is one of the most important tools that you need to equip your blog in order to increase your traffic. I will share more about this topic soon!

Hope you find this post helpful! xoxo,
