“Product Review: Eyeko Black Magic Mascara”

This mascara is one of the items I’ve received in my October 2017 TopBox and you may already know that TopBox have not really met my expectations so after receiving my second box, I immediately unsubscribed from their service. I’ve recently shared a review of the Skin & Co Truffle Therapy Toner which is also from my October box because I honestly just want to get rid of these products.

I was immediately intrigued with this mascara the moment I opened my box because of the unique packaging. It came in a tube which at first glance looked like an eye primer to me so I was surprised to read the word “Mascara” neatly written just below the lid. I’m actually impressed that the tube feels and looks sturdy even though it’s soft to touch, surprisingly the packaging did not make it difficult to take out the product or even the wand- it basically works just like the regular mascara container.

Eyeko designed this mascara to curl and to add volume to the lashes thus the description “Drama & Curl” which is probably the reason why the mascara brush is slightly curved.

The thickness of the brush’s bristles is just enough to hold enough amount of product and the curved side made the application so much easier. It’s like it was measured to perfectly fit my lid so it completely covered my full lashes in just one swipe. Immediately though, I noticed that this mascara did not add any volume in my lashes even after a few applications which is such a bummer because I prefer mascara that gives volume to my nonexistent lashes. I don’t use false lashes and my lashes are very thin so I always look for mascaras that helps to volumize my lashes. I also noticed that this absolutely did not help to curl my lashes! Already, I would always curl my lashes before applying my mascara and I noticed no difference when I was using this mascara and my other mascaras. My lashes didn’t looked much curler at all. What I observed is that this helped to lengthen my lashes but in terms of its claim to volumize and curl it’s a big no no!

I like that this didn’t clump, dry out my lashes or gave me a spidery finish. I’m also impressed that it last throughout the day without the need of reapplying but this is mostly common to majority of mascaras in the market.

Removing this product at the end of the day can be such a pain, I noticed that it tends to break down in really small particles which is really irritating in the eye. I would either use my eye makeup remover or miscellar water to take it off at the end of the day but it always gives me the same effect and even after washing my face with water, I still feel these tiny particles in my lashes so I have to repeat using my eye makeup remover before starting my nightly skin care routine.

Over all, this is a decent mascara but not at all impressive in my opinion. I hate it when a product claims to do something but ultimately fails it because I personally always buy things because of their description and it’s always disappointing when they don’t actually give you that result. I’m glad that I was only able to get this from a subscription box because if ever I bought this individually, I may have returned it.

I definitely won’t purchase this in the future and would just stick with my favorite mascaras. I would also not recommend it to anyone looking for a mascara that’ll give you a lot of volume because this is definitely not the right one. If you’re looking for a lengthening mascara, then this might work for you.

Have you tried this mascara before? How’d you like it?

Much love,
