“What I’ve been reading this month: September 2017”

It’s been quite some time since I’ve actually sat down and read a magazine or let alone a book mainly because I’ve been spending most of my free time blogging, writing and (coughs!?) sometimes doing absolutely nothing. I’d like to think though that I’ve made a bit of improvement this month since I was able to find some time to read which I find essential not only as a form of relaxation but a way of widening my vocabulary and hopefully an exercise to sharpen my writing skills. So for today’s post I’ll be sharing with you all-

What I’ve been reading this month

I honestly lost my appetite reading magazines a long time ago since most of them contains more advertisements than articles. I remember back in highschool and college when I would save up money just to buy magazines because I’m so interested in reading beauty related articles, Fashion and love and relationship articles and stories. Magazines helped shape up my love for writing articles but now a days it’s just difficult to find one that has a really good and inspiring contents.

I was tempted though to read a few magazines this month and during one of my trips at the drugstore, I grabbed the Marie Claire September Edition which has Emma Stone in the cover. It was a nice read but again, it contained more advertisements than articles but I can’t really complain since Marie Claire is a fashion magazine. I enjoyed reading the beauty and makeup advices and surprisingly the article about Paris Hilton. I was never a fan of Paris Hilton but after reading the article I developed a sense of admiration on her business mindedness and respect on her hard work as a business woman. I mean, she was already born with a silver spoon on her mouth but it’s inspiring how she still strive and work hard to be successful.

Next up is the September 2017 issue of Vanity Fair which I purchase because Angelina Jolie is in the cover. She is probably the only celebrity that I look up to mainly because of her principles and humanitarian works. I see her not only as a woman of striking beauty but an epitome of strenght, strong mind and passionate individual.

The article about her was beautifully written with great detail about the day she was interviewed. While immersing myself on the article, I felt like I was just there sitting and watching the full interview. I also liked that the writer didn’t really focus on her impending divorce with Brad Pitt which of course is interesting to know but I thought it would be a breath of fresh air for them to discuss other things since this news is just heartbreaking and seriously redundant. Anyways, the article talked more about Angelina Jolie’s newest directing project called “First They Killed my Father” which is derived from a story of a Cambodian Author during the Khmer Rouge ruling in Cambodia. The movie picked my interest and I am hoping to see it soon.

Last on the list is a novel entitled Adultery by Paulo Coelho.

I bought this book over a year ago and even brought it with me when I went to the Philippines hoping to find the perfect time to read it but that chance never really came. I finally was able to start reading it and is still half way through and I am just hooked. It’s a story of a woman looking for happiness in spite of having the perfect life. It’s very relatable and realistic as we all go through those times when we question ourselves if we are really happy and contented in our lives. I like how the story was told since you can easily understand the sequence and won’t get lost along the next chapters. This is actually the very first novel from Paulo Coelho that I’ve ever read and I don’t know why because he is such a good storyteller and I am definitely looking forward on reading more of his works.

So that’s my September reading list. What have you been reading this month?
Much love,
