“Coffee Break: The Power of Makeup”

My love for makeup stems down from since I was a little girl. My mama would always share a story of me sitting down in front of a mirror while putting on baby powder on my face when I was younger. In high school, I’ve always been excited about learning how to properly use makeup, trying out new products or just basically wearing ’em. This passion of course continues until now and I’d say in a more broader way. Why? Because throughout the years, I came to realize that makeup is more than just a product that we put on our faces. Makeup is an art that depicts inner feelings and emotions. It is a tool that can help boost self confidence and self worth. And in contrast to what many thinks, makeup is not a mask but an illustration of real beauty.

This belief of course is not understood by many and I’m sure, almost all beauty lovers out there experienced being questioned and judged because of their love for makeup. People tend to think that wearing makeup is a way of hiding one’s real identity thus depicting superficiality. In some instances, they define the totality of a person because of wearing makeup or lack thereof. At times, it is used as a measurement of beauty wherein the ones wearing it is the most unattractive. These negative notions practically made women and basically anyone who loves makeup to be ashamed and even guilty of wearing makeup.

What these people don’t understand is the essence of wearing makeup which is to highlight the natural beauty that we already possess. It is a creative way of showcasing our natural features and not a way of hiding what we really look like. And yes, there are products out there which helps minimize the appearance of a flaw but using these products does not necessarily means insecurity. I am sure we all have at least one thing that we don’t really like about ourselves which is normal because no one is created perfect yet using a makeup to cover it up seems to be a big deal for some.

With all of the articles and videos about beauty and makeup that are available to almost everyone, we might think that we all have an open mind when it comes to makeup but this is not true. There are a few who just doesn’t seem to understand the power of makeup.

Makeup is an accessory that can help us to feel good about ourselves especially at times when we feel less beautiful like going through a breakup or some difficult life changes. It makes us more confident about ourselves which in turn helps us to effectively interact with other people. It can also makes us happy, I mean aren’t we all happy when we are doing what we love?

Yes!, makeup can allow us to change how we look, foundation can make our skin look finer, eye liner can make our eyes look bigger, lipsticks can make our lips fuller and so on but these changes does not mean we don’t love what we really look like because the most important thing is how much we feel about ourselves when the makeup is gone.

Wearing makeup does not equate to inadequacy but it’s a state of being aware of one’s imperfections yet embracing it. It is also not a lack of self love but an expression of one’s love to themselves.

In the end, real beauty is not defined by our choice to eithet wear makeup or not. Real beauty is found within ourselves and how we feel about ourselves regardless if we choose to wear makeup or not. Everyone should understand though that wearing makeup is not a crime but is a creative way of expressing ourselves and what we love. It helps us face the world with added confidence and fierce and I believe that no one deserves to be judged or criticized for doing what they love.

Much love❤,
