Covergirl’s Katy Kat Gloss

The Katy Kat Gloss is the newest instalment on Covergirl’s collaboration with Katy Perry. It is a cat-inspired collection of 12 different shades that aims to provide a shiny but rich finish. What’s interesting about this lip gloss is its unique silver cat wand applicator which for me gave a very sophisticated effect on the product’s overall look. The tube which is beautifully embossed with silver letterings is made with a clear thick plastic which visibly gives everyone a peak of the gloss’ different shades.

I picked out three shades from the collection- Cateloupe (nude shade), Ninth life (red shade) and Wine Feline (red with brown undertone).

(Top to Bottom) Cateloupe, Wine Feline and Ninth Life.

The formula seems to be different in all three which I find a bit odd considering that they are supposed to be a part of one collection. The Ninth Life which is my favorite among the three has a richer and softer consistency which helped for a more even application whilst the Cateloupe and Wine Feline seems to be a bit dry and flaky which can clung if you have a drier lips. A common denominator among the three in terms of the formula is that they all feel sticky when applied to the lips. The finish is glossy but not shiny which I love because unfortunately, shiny doesn’t suit me.

Another disappointment is the wand applicator. Although it looks cute, I didn’t find it much helpful when applying the product. It doesn’t seem to absorb the product very well and it did not apply the gloss evenly so it does take a little work to cover your entire lips.

Longevity is also a let down, the product barely stayed for an hour especially that I am a huge coffee drinker so I found myself re-applying the product numerous times all throughout the day. It’s also absolutely not a transfer proof lippie which I guess played a major role on the longevity.

Overall, the Katy Kat Gloss is an okay gloss but I would probably not repurchase once I finished these three. While the color payoff is fine and the packaging is beautiful, the overall quality is not really impressive. It’s also disspointing that the product doesn’t dry fast which can create a big mess on my clothes.

Have you tried this collection? Which one is your favorite?

xoxo,
