Benefit’s The POREfessional Pore Primer VS Pearl Primer

The POREfessional Pore Primer from Benefit is no doubt one of the best primers in the market withstanding so many new releases from different brands. This success is probably the reason why Benefit decided to release its twin sister- the Pearl Primer.

But the big question now is, “Did the Pearl Primer manage to offer something new and different than its predecessor?” or “Is it just one of the products that brands tend to release as a copy cut mainly for the sake of profit?”.

After using both products for the past wo months, I wanted to share with you all my thoughts about these two primers. For the purpose of this post, I will mainly compare both products from each other.

Firstly, Benefit themselves described both products differently (with the exception that both will supposedly minimize pores). The Pore Primer offers a Smooth Finish whilst the Pearl Primer vows for a radiant and bright and finish.

Packaging

There is absolutely no difference in the packaging except of course for their colours (Pore Primer in Light Green and the Pearl Primer in Soft Pink). Both came in a tube which allows you to be in control on the amount of product you want to use.

Size

Both variants came in Mini (7 g) and Full sizes (21 g) except that a Value size (64 g) is available (at Sephora’s website) for the Pore Primer.

Prize

The prizes for both primers in all sizes are the same. Mini ($16.00 CAD) Regular ($42.00 CAD) Value Size ($64.oo CAD)

Consistency

Both primers has a smooth and lightweight consistency making the application so much easier. The product will automatically glide and blends well to the skin. However, I find that the Pearl Primer feels slightly softer than the Pore Primer which I definitely would prefer more for Winter since my skin tends to be on the drier side.

Finish

This is the area where I was expecting a huge difference between the two but I was extremely surpised to see no difference at all! Although the Pearl Primer looked (very) slightly lighter on my skin after application, the finish look is completely similar with the Pore Primer. I’ve even tried to use one primer on the right side of my face and the other on my left side but still, I did not see any contrast for me to identify which once is which.

Which one do I prefer more?

I would probably go for the Pearl Primer mainly because it feels softer on the skin.

Final Thoughts

I am actually a bit disappointed that Benefit failed to create a different flavor to the POREfessional Primer line because I was really excited when I saw the Pearl Primer for the first time. However, there is no telling on how good these primers are. Both did an excellent job on minimizing my pores especially on my cheek area and both helped to keep my makeup last all throughout the day. I also love how well both blended on my skin and makeup. It did an excellent job on prepping my skin for makeup application. The only thing that would stop me from repurchasing any of these primers are their sizes. For their prizes, I honestly don’t think the amount of the product that you are getting is reasonable especially that a lot of brands offers a higher amount of ML for a lesser price for the same results. (Examples: Fenty Beauty’s Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer is $40.00 CAD for 32 ML, Prime and Peachy by Too Faced for $40.00 for a 40 ML tube)

Have you tried these primers? Which one is your favorite?

xoxo,

  • Hundred Worries

I do love how light this primer is and how smooth and soft it makes my skin feel. For me however it’s doesn’t make any difference to the application of my foundation. It does leave me with quite dry patches on my forehead. I do prefer to wear this on its own without and foundation over it. It gives me a lovely glow, especially when I use the Benefit Hoola bronzer.
