“How I Clean my Brushes”
This is the most boring thing about makeup brushes- cleaning ’em! But as boring as it may sound, we all know that having clean makeup brushes is very essential not only as a way of taking care of them but it’s also important to prevent infections or acne on our skin.
For today’s post, I’ll be sharing with you all
How I clean my makeup brushes…
What I need:
I always use a regular hair conditioner to clean my brushes. I honestly don’t see the need of buying the makeup brushes cleaner because they’re unreasonably pricey and my conditioner does the job perfectly!
This is a recent discovery and I was initially very scared to use it because I honestly thought it’s going to ruin my brushes but obviously I was wrong. This makeup brush “brush” cleaner helps a lot to thoroughly remove any traces of makeup on my brushes. You can also use the palm of your hand if you don’t have this brush.
First, I soak my sponges and brushes on a lukewarm water with conditioner to melt down any makeup residue. This step helps a lot to make the cleansing easier.
I would usually clean my brushes first to let my sponges soak longer because they’re the most difficult ones to clean.
I just add enough amount of conditioner on my makeup brush “brush”.
Then I gently rub my brushes in a circular motion. If the suds turns brown, I’ll wash it off and add conditioner again and again rub my brushes in circular motion. I’ll repeat this process until the suds turns white to make sure that there’s no makeup residue left.
Then I’ll just soak the brushes again in a clean lukewarm water.
To rinse off, I just massage the bristles in a running water.
After rinsing, I lay my clean brushes in a dry and clean towel.
Now it’s time to wash my sponges. Firstly, I wash them with running water to remove some of the residues. Then I’ll add conditioner and gently massage the sponges with my finger until it’s clean. You have to be patient with cleaning your sponges because it can be really tedious. I find that rinsing it in between in a running water makes it a bit easier.
So here’s my clean sponges
I used the same method with the purple one but the stain is still difficult to remove. I actually bought this for like $4.00 CAD and I didn’t like how it blends my foundation so I’m just using it for my concealer.
To dry the brushes and sponges, I again lay all my brushes in clean towel and cover them with another clean towel. This step is really important because the bristles are wet and they can easily absorb dirt so covering them while letting them dry is a must!
I usually let my brushes dry for about 24 hours or until I can feel that the bristles are really dry.
Make sure to clean your sponges, foundation, eyeliner and concealer brushes once a week to prevent product build up and since these are the ones that you use daily while eye makeup brushes can be cleaned every two weeks.
And that’s how I clean my brushes! Hope you enjoyed this and find it at least helpful.
Thank you for reading!

Baby Shampoo also works really good but I find that conditioners gives the same result and it’s a bit cheaper too.
