“Coffee Break: When do we say Goodbye in a Relationship”

Is there really a right time to say goodbye in a relationship? Is it better to stay and fight for it to work or is it better to save yourself and leave? Is it better to hold on or let go? When do we say goodbye? Is it selfish to say goodbye? How about love?

Well, the truth is love sometimes doesn’t last. Sometimes it comes with an expiration date, it comes with a purpose and as soon as that purpose is served, it’ll wither. They say good things doesn’t always last and sadly that’s the same reality with love regadless of how real and pure it was once- we just have to say goodbye.

But when do we really say goodbye?

For me, the best time to say goodbye is when you’re no longer happy.

Of course some would say that if you truly love someone, you have to fight for it! But how can you fight for something that doesn’t make you happy? Love is one of the most beautiful things in this world but if it’s not making you happy then why would you choose to fight? Why would you choose to stay?

Although each relationship is unique and goes through different obstacles, the main reason why relationships break is when happiness no longer exist. One may fight for love but hearts can grew tired too, until when are you willing to fight? Isn’t it wiser to walk out of the door and save a bit of yourself?

Does this mean you’re selfish?

Of course not! Letting go is never selfish and in fact, it could be a language of love. Goodbye may cause pain to the other party involve but imprisoning someone in a relationship that no longer makes you happy is far worse and can even cause terrible pain.

The bottom line is, when you’re in a relationship that no longer makes you happy- leave! There’s no need for other explanations or excuses because at the end of the day you can never truly love someone when you’re no longer happy.

Good relationships are not only built with love and trust it has to have a support that binds it which is happiness. When this ingredient no longer exist, there’s no longer a point to fight and stay. Sometimes, goodbye is the best choice. I am not saying that we should give up on love and strive for happiness instead. What I’m trying to say is that love can never stand without happiness. Both should exist alongside each other.

At the end of the day, what truly matters is our own happiness. Never imprison yourself in a relationship that no longer makes you happy, don’t be scared to say goodbye because this is the right thing to do! We may hurt someone in the process that can cause people to judge us but it’s always better to be truthful so we can be free and happy.

Much love,
